Math

Class Format

Face-to-face sections use a hybrid of the flipped classroom strategy. Generally material is presented during the first half and then we will work homework together during the second half. Students are encouraged to participate.

Resource Use

Textbooks are generally required. In Math 115, 116, 171, and 181 a physical copy is optional as you will have a digital copy of the book through MyMathLab or MyStatLab.

Calculators are required for all classes. For a scientific calculator I recommend the TI-34 Multiview. If the class is more advanced (College Algebra and beyond) any version of the TI-84 is required. For statistics, a scientific calculator may be used as we will use StatCrunch for the main calculator.

Computer software whenever needed, will be available for student use in the Math Resource Center.

Online homework will be assigned in Math 115, 116, 171, and 181. Other courses will generally not assign online homework.

Assessment

In-class quizzes will be held either every week or every other week. A final exam and a midterm exam will be worth 20% each. The rest of the points will come from quizzes and homework if it is collected.

Homework Policy

For Math 115, 116, 171, and 181 homework will be completed through MyMathLab and MyStatLab. For other classes I will generally assign homework but not collect it. The homework will prepare you for the quizzes. I will generally assign odd problems so that you can check your answers.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is expected but will not factor into your grade.
