What will I learn?

JCCC's skills-based French courses help you become proficient at French as quickly as possible. Learning how to speak, listen, read and write gives you a strong foundation for fluency in French, which is widely spoken around the world and is a key language of politics, diplomacy and international business.

You’ll also learn about the diverse French culture and its impact on the world as the traditional language of:

  • Art
  • Fashion
  • Culinary arts
  • Architecture

Start with Elementary French I (FL 140) and take a four-semester sequence through Intermediate French I (FL 240) and II (FL 241) to become fluent. This sequence meets the foreign language requirement for many bachelor’s degrees at four-year schools. Most French courses at JCCC are guaranteed by the Kansas Board of Regents to transfer to all Kansas public postsecondary institutions.

After Elementary French II (FL 141) (or if you have two years of high school French), you may take Conversational French (FL 243) for additional practice and

As a French student, you can access free personal tutoring in the Language Resource Center (LRC) and practice on its computer-based language programs. Join the French club – La Table Française – to fine-tune your language skills with an encouraging group of fellow students.
