Beate Pettigrew

BEATE (bee-AT-ee) PETTIGREW is the Chair for the Department of Music, Theatre and Recording Arts and the artistic coordinator for the theatre department. She has twice been the recipient of the Lieberman Teaching Excellence Award for Adjunct Faculty while serving as part of the adjunct faculty during her first 18 years at JCCC.

Beate has an MA in theatre from the University of Kansas and was a Hallmark Fellow while attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she graduated magna cum laude with an MFA in Theatre Direction. She has directed nearly 100 academic and professional plays, which include favorites such as Assassins, Uncle Vanya, BecauseHeCan, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fuddy Meers, Almost, Maine, Buried Child, Private Eyes, Godspell and Violet.

Nationally, Beate has been involved with the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for over 20 years, serving as Region V's Chair, National Chair of Chairs, National Selection Team, Student Dramaturg Coordinator, Directing Initiatives Coordinator, and the National Irene Ryan Acting Audition Coordinator. She is honored to have twice received the Kennedy Center Medallion of Excellence for her service to KCACTF.
