Employee Assistance Program (EAP)


Johnson County Community College provides EAP coverage with New Directions Behavioral Health, at no cost, to all full-time and part-time regular employees. New Directions provides support, resources and information for personal and work-life issues to you and your immediate family members. Confidential Counseling

No-cost counseling services help you address stress, relationship and other personal issues you and your family may face. Professionally trained guidance consultants--masters and doctoral level clinicians-- will listen to your concerns and quickly refer you to in-person counseling and other resources. Counseling services are provided by over 200 Kansas City-area professionally experienced staff. This service offers up to five free face-to-face visits per member per problem each benefit plan year which runs from June 1st to May 31st. You simply call 800-624-5544 for assistance.

Online Session

As an alternative to face-to-face counseling sessions you can request an EAP session online from the comfort and convenience of you home of workplace computer. The option to search for and request a specific provider is also available, all while maintaining the utmost confidentiality and privacy.

Text Message Therapy

As an alternative to face-to-face counseling or online sessions, you can reach a therapist by text messaging. New Directions has partnered with Talkspace, an online therapy platform that makes mental healthcare more convenient and accessible by connecting users with a network of 2,500+ licensed therapists. Texting with a therapist can be easy and give you private space to work through your challenges. Talkspace deploys a variety of techniques to ensure that your data is always kept safe and confidential. Legal Consultation and Referrals

You receive the benefits of a legal referral program that offers a 30 minute consultation with a an attorney, by telephone or in person for most legal matters such as civil lawsuits, divorce/custody, criminal actions, contracts, immigration issues, and eldercare tools (e.g. wills, healthcare proxies). Ongoing consultation with the attorney is available. With one quick phone call, employees can discover what steps to take when faced with a legal problem. Should your matters be more complex in nature, you will be referred to an attorney at a 25% discount.

Financial and Credit Information/Referrals

Changes in finances and accumulating debt can create great stress for anyone. If you are facing this challenge you can call New Directions for support and the resources needed to settle financial issues. You will receive referral to a credit consultant for a free 30 minute consultation, when appropriate, combined with emotional support and motivation to take control for finances. Financial professionals are available to provide consultation on most financial issues, including credit/debt issues, budgeting, bankruptcy, identity theft, tax filing and estate/retirement planning.

Referral

Should a referral to an outside resource be required, a New Directions counselor will facilitate a referral to a self-help group, a behavioral health professional, local mental health agency, physician, hospital or other necessary resource. JCCC will not be responsible for the cost of these services, however, the New Directions counselor will assist the employee in utilizing their health insurance plan if applicable.
